At Shin Ichi Do Dojo we teach Muso Shinden Ryu Iai and Kendo. With Regards to our Iai, we teach the Iai as it was taught to our sensei Mr. David Ansell 7th Dan Kyoshi, by his teachers. Sensei Victor Cook and Sensei Ishido Shizufumi. Our Sensei has trained in Japan and abroad as well as this country (England); he has been training in Iai since 1979. Sensei Ansell teaches Muso Shinden Ryu Iai, he does not call it jutsu in any shape or form. (Although all appellations, maybe correct) just to make it sound more exotic or exciting. He has not been taught any secret techniques, in private sessions that no one else knows; he has not been trained by tengu, or by an old ascetic swordsman who lived in a cave, halfway up a mountain. But he has been taught by some very accomplished Swordsman. They have tried to pass on their considerable knowledge. Sensei Ansell has tried not to change the techniques as taught to him or modified them, to make things easier. Neither has he devised new variations of the techniques with new applications, to justify any errors. He simply tries to pass on the traditional techniques in a friendly atmosphere, but with etiquette, courtesy and respect for all students. Like most kendo dojos, our Kendo is based on Zen Nippon kendo Renmei kendo teaching methods, We learn all aspects of kendo, as taught in Japan Our teachers have also, all trained in Japan. In Shin Ichi do Dojo, all students have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and experience of Kendo by visiting other kendo dojos, learning with a wide variety of kendo Sensei, as well as being taught by many visiting Sensei. We study Kendo Kata, as well as the more physical side of modern kendo. Some Competitions and taikai are open to all of our students, if they wish to pursue this aspect of kendo, but no one is forced or coerced into participating in any event. |
