What are the fees?
A Junior is under 16 years old
- Each lesson for a Senior is £7
- Each lesson for a Junior is £5
- Each Month for a Senior is £30 (unlimited number of lessons)
- Each Month for a Junior is £20 (unlimited number of lessons)
There is an introductory offer of no cost for the first two lessons,
then you will have to pay on a per lesson basis, or per month - which
generally works out far cheaper.
When you have decided to join the club, you will have to join the
Federation of Iai Schools (FIS) which will give you and the club
insurance cover of up to £1 milliion.this cost is £10.00 pounds annually. Who are we Shin Ichi Do Dojo is a private dojo, we are wholly owned and run independently. Our dojo members consist of people of all ages and from all walks of life who belong to several organisations and associations e.g. British Kendo Association, Dai Nippon Butokukai, Kokusai Budoin, etc. we welcome Kendoka and Iaidoka from all associations,please feel free to come and train with us. Membership to the Dai Nippon Butokukai (DNBK) is by
invitation only. | What equipment do I need, and when?
The club has spare equipment for you to train with. It is usual to
try Kendo or Iaido for a month or so before committing to buying
equipment.
Kendo: You will usually buy the clothing first - the trousers Hakama, and the Jacket Keikogi, then you buy a shinai and a bokken. Costs vary but a hakama, and a keikogi will be about £50, a reasonable shinai is about £20, and a bokken is about £10. The armour can be *much* more expensive!!
Iaido: Again you will buy the clothing first. the outer jacket iaigi and inner jacket shitagi, and hakama will be about £65, a bokken is about £10, and a reasonable sword can be from £250 upwards (this can go very high!) Before you purchase anything ,PLEASE get advice from the teachers, We sometimes have second hand equipment that can be purchased, from the club.
